3 - some examples from the New Testament


1. Three months is the period Mary stayed with her relative before John and Jesus were born (Luke 1:56)
2. Three gifts were given to Jesus by the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12)
3. Three days is the time it took for Jesus's parents to find him again after losing him in Jerusalem (Luke 2:46)
4. Three temptations came to Christ in the wilderness each answered with a Scripture (Matthew 4:1-11, etc)
6. Three years is probably the period of Jesus's ministry. This is the period mentioned in the parable of the unfruitful fig tree (Luke 13:3)
7. Three shelters is the number of shelters Peter planned erecting on the mount of transfiguration (Matthew 17:4, etc)
8. Three times is the number of times Peter denied his Lord as predicted and as echoed in his later restoration (John 18, etc)
9. Three crosses were used to crucify Jesus and the criminals either side of him (Matthew 27:38, etc)
10. Three days and three nights* is the period that Jesus was in the tomb as prophesied (Matthew 12:40, 25:81, 27:40, 63, etc)
(Also, three witnesses are mentioned by Jesus in connection with meeting in his name (Matthew 18:18, 20)

*The expression does not mean 72 hours but a whole day and night plus parts of the others before and after
