5 Brief Exhortations in 1 Corinthians 16:13, 14

1 Corinthians 16:13, 14

Be on your guard;
stand firm in the faith;
be courageous;
be strong.
Do everything in love.

4 Eschatological Crowns in the New Testament

1 Corinthians 9:24, 25 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last for ever.

2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing

James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
{Cf Revelation 2:10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.)

1 Peter 5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

3 Statements by Paul expressing growing humility

Paul’s humility is most clearly seen in his own self-appraisal. We can see a progression in this.

AD 55
1 Corinthians 15:9
For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

AD 60
Ephesians 3:8
Although I am less than the least of all the Lord's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ,

AD 65 or earlier, near the end of his life
1 Timothy 1:15
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am the worst.

6 types of material a person may metaphorically build the church with

1 Corinthians 3:11-15
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using

gold,
silver,
costly stones,
wood,
hay
or straw,

their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person's work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved - even though only as one escaping through the flames.

9 Characteristics of an Apostle as listed in 1 Corinthians 4

1 Corinthians 4:11-13
To this very hour

we go hungry and thirsty,
we are in rags,
we are brutally treated,
we are homeless.
We work hard with our own hands.
When we are cursed, we bless;
when we are persecuted, we endure it;
when we are slandered, we answer kindly.
We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world

 - right up to this moment.

3 pointed contrasts between Paul and the Corinthians, 1 Corinthians 4:10

1 Corinthians 4:13
We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ!
We are weak, but you are strong!
You are honoured, we are dishonoured!

3 virtues that last as listed in 1 Corinthians 13:13

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain:

faith,
hope
and love. But the greatest of these is love.

3 part Trinitarian statement about gifts and serving from 1 Corinthians 12

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

8 gifts of the Spirit listed towards the end of 1 Corinthians 12

1 Corinthians 12:27, 28

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church

first of all apostles,
second prophets,
third teachers,
then miracles,
then gifts of healing,
of helping,
of guidance,
and of different kinds of tongues.

9 gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11

1 Corinthians 12:7-11
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,
to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
to another faith by the same Spirit,
to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
to another miraculous powers,
to another prophecy,
to another distinguishing between spirits,
to another speaking in different kinds of tongues
and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

10 sins of Corinth sexual or otherwise

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:

(sexual sins)
Neither the sexually immoral
nor idolaters
nor adulterers
nor men who have sex with men (or men who let other men use them for sex or who have sex with other men)

(other sins)
nor thieves
nor the greedy
nor drunkards
nor slanderers
nor swindlers

will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

6 resurrection appearances listed by Paul

There appear to have been about twelve recorded resurrection appearances. Paul lists half of them near the end of his letter to the Corinthians

1 Corinthians 15:3-9
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

and that he appeared to Cephas, (Peter)
and then to the Twelve.
After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
Then he appeared to James,
then to all the apostles,
and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

3 vital historical events at the heart of the gospel

1 Corinthians 15:3, 4 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance:
that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
that he was buried,
that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

15 characteristics of Christian love

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient,
love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It does not dishonour others,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.
Love never fails.

6 things worthless without love

1 Corinthians 13:1-3
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels,
but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy
and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have a faith that can move mountains,
but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor
and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,
but do not have love, I gain nothing.
